At 10 months and 35,000 miles this is the longest race on the planet.
It visits 14 cities on five continents over 7 legs with 14 individual
races. Major international cities
and regions sponsor each of the ten 68ft sleek ocean going yachts and Yorkshire Forward, the region’s development agency, is proud to have entered ‘Hull & Humber’ to promote the region on a world stage alongside the likes of New York, Singapore, Durban,
Qingdao and Western Australia,
to name but a few.

This page acts as a portal to official information about the race from Clipper: You can follow the fleet’s progress on the Google Earth race viewer, discover more about the route and ports of call; plus you can find out more about the Hull & Humber crew and catch up on their regular blogs e-mailed during the race.

There’s also a comprehensive multimedia section with images, videos and audio podcasts from the race. For the latest on the race and access to coverage from the media, visit our news page.

The race was conceived over ten years ago by sailing legend Sir Robin
Knox-Johnston, the first person to sail single handed solo around the world. He is now chairman of race organisers Clipper Ventures plc.

Each yacht has a crew of up to 17 amateurs under the command of a professional skipper. The crew undergo at least a month’s training before embarking on the race. Around half are on board for the whole race and the remainder join for one or more legs. So yachts like Hull & Humber have up to 50 people signed up as crew who will do all or part of the race.

If you would be interested in taking part in the next Clipper Round the World Yacht Race in 2009/10, see the Clipper crew recruitment page.
