The Humber is unified by the Humber Bridge - the world's longest single span suspension bridge for many years until it was recently superseded by larger structures in the Far East. It links East Yorkshire with North Lincolnshire, which continues the sweep of the Wolds from north to south. North Lincolnshire is an area of rural tranquillity and remarkable natural beauty. The rolling chalk of the Lincolnshire Wolds meets the lush Ancholme Valley and the unique Isle of Axholme. The past and present are never far apart and there are many attractions and places of interest within easy reach. These are linked by quiet country lanes and cycle routes. The vibrant town of Scunthorpe grew from five sleepy rural villages into one of the world’s major steel producing centres. A heritage trail and steam train rides tell the story of the great Victorian ironmasters. This is bordered by North East Lincolnshire. In addition to the major port towns of Grimsby and Immingham, the beach at Cleethorpes is one of its most famous assets. Confidence in the resort's four-and-a-half mile stretch of beach has never been greater, after winning a prestigious, third successive Blue Flag award in 2006. Pleasure Island , Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway, The Jungle, Cleethorpes Discovery Centre, The Fishing Heritage Centre, Waltham Windmill, Grimsby Auditorium and Chequered Flag Karting are just some of the other fantastic attractions. Hull and Humber is a dynamic part of England which welcomes visitors and investors for business or leisure with great pride, a warm welcome and a passion for success. It is delighted to be represented in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race 07-08 and 09-10 through the support of Yorkshire Forward, the region’s development agency. <<< Back |
